Hurricanes get another transfer portal boost with commitment from tight end Alex Bauman
The Miami Hurricanes have bolstered yet another position of need via the transfer portal.
Tight end Alex Bauman, who spent his first three seasons of college football at Tulane, on Saturday committed to the Hurricanes.
Bauman is ranked as the No. 8 overall tight end available in the portal by 247Sports. Over three seasons at Tulane, the 6-5, 245-pound Bauman has caught 63 passes for 610 yards and 13 touchdowns. That includes 20 catches for 212 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior last season.
Miami needs the depth at tight end after losing three of its top four players at the position. Elijah Arroyo, who led the group with 35 catches for 590 yards and seven touchdowns in 2024, opted to forgo his final year of eligibility by declaring for the NFL Draft. Cam McCormick, who played nine seasons of college football with the last two at Miami, ran out of eligibility. And sophomore Riley Williams entered the transfer portal.
That left Elija Lofton, who caught nine passes for 150 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a touchdown as a true freshman, as Miami’s only tight end with ample collegiate experience. The Hurricanes also have a pair of tight ends signed in their 2025 recruiting class in Brock Schott and Luka Gilbert, both four-star prospects. UM also has Jackson Carver on the roster.
Miami so far has already received commitments from nine players via the transfer portal: Cornerbacks Emmanuel Karnley and Charles Brantley, defensive lineman David Blay, wide receiver CJ Daniels, safety Zechariah Poyser, kicker Carter Davis, long snapper Adam Booker, center James Brockermeyer and now Bauman.
The Hurricanes are also still in the mix for brothers Zachariah and Zion Branch from USC.
Zachariah Branch is listed as the No. 4 overall player in the portal and the No. 2 wide receiver by 247Sports. He caught 78 passes for 823 yards and three touchdowns in 23 games over two seasons. He was also a noted return specialist during his freshman season, returning both a kickoff and a punt return for a touchdown.
Zion Branch has played in 19 career games for USC, recording 41 tackles, three tackles for loss, one second, three defended passes and a forced fumble.
Both Branch brothers would have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
