Hunter Schafer Shines in Show-Stopping, Hand-Painted Gown — and It Belongs in a Museum
The Euphoria star wore a custom Marni gown that was painstakingly created with individual brush strokes
Hunter Schafer’s latest look is a work of art — literally.
The 25-year-old Euphoria star is known for her out-of-the-box red carpet style and she wowed yet again at GQ’s Global Creativity Awards on Thursday, April 11. Schafer wore a custom Marni creation that was painstakingly painted by hand in a style reminiscent of Van Gogh’s famous work Starry Night.
Marni’s creative director, Francesco Rossi, was a fellow honoree at the GQ awards ceremony, along with Schafer. Rossi created a similar hand-painted dress for Tracee Ellis Ross earlier this month. Ross wore the blue intricate cut-out piece to the New Museum’s 2024 Spring Gala on Wednesday, April 3.
Schafer’s gown, which featured a v-neckline and figure-flattering silhouette, was hand-painted in muted shades of blue, yellow and white.

In behind-the-scenes photos shared on Marni’s Instagram Stories, the base of Schafer’s look (a simple blue dress) is seen placed on a form before the painting process begins. The artist then applied the paint using a small metal tool, applying thick strokes of paint for a textured, 3D appearance.
Schafer accessorized with matching hand-painted shoes and sported straight, waist-length locks that complemented the elegance of her custom ensemble.
A recent cover star for GQ’s Creativity issue, the actress opened up about to the outlet about past relationships. After being photographed together several times in the last few years, Schafer confirmed that she and Rosalía were “once romantically involved” for five months in 2019 and now have a “really beautiful” friendship.
“It’s been so much speculation for so long,” she told the outlet of her romance with the Spanish singer. “Part of us just wants to get it over with, and then another part is like, ‘It’s none of anybody’s fucking business!’”
Schafer also reflected on her relationship with her Euphoria costar Dominic Fike. After more than a year of dating, the pair's split was confirmed in July 2023.
“I had a really beautiful relationship with [him], and it really opened me up in that way,” the star said, sharing that Fike had been the first man she had dated.

Schafer added that she’s “still in some ways healing” from the relationship and confirmed she’s currently single. I want to make sure I’m good all the way before I jump into something else,” she said.
Season 3 of Euphoria is due in 2025, but until then, Schafer is plenty busy. The actress will appear in the upcoming film Kind of Kindness, directed by Poor Things’ Yorgos Lanthimos and also starring Emma Stone.
