Hunter Dickinson confirms transfer to Kansas men's basketball

One of the biggest-name players in the men's college basketball transfer portal, both literally and figuratively, has made his decision. Former Michigan center Hunter Dickinson announced Thursday via social media that he will continue his career at Kansas.

The seven-footer was rated by most analysts as the top-ranked player available in the portal. Dickinson earned all-Big Ten honors in all three of his seasons with the Wolverines. He averaged 18.5 points and 9.0 rebounds as a junior last year, but the season was overall a disappointment for Michigan with an 18-16 record that ended in an NIT loss at Vanderbilt.

Dickinson, who attended high school in the Washington, D.C. area, announced he was entering the portal shortly after the season. He considered returning to Michigan, while also contemplating moves to Georgetown, Maryland, Villanova and Kentucky before revealing his decision.

Dickinson is a huge addition for reloading Kansas squad whose most recent season was also something of a disappointment. The Jayhawks earned a No. 1 regional seed in defense of their 2022 national championship, but they were upended by eighth-seeded Arkansas in the second round with coach Bill Self missing the postseason due to a heart procedure. Dickinson will join K.J. Adams (10.6 ppg) in the frontcourt and returning point guard Dajuan Harris (8.9 ppg, 6.2 apg) as key players hoping to get Kansas back in Final Four contention.
