Mats Hummels finally made his debut in the Roma jersey and within four minutes scored an own goal in favour of Fiorentina.

The 35-year-old German international and World Cup winner had joined as a free agent on September 4 following a lengthy career between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

He continued to drop hints on social media expressing his frustration at the lack of playing time, having not featured for a single minute of football this season in Serie A or the Europa League.

Coach Ivan Juric said that Hummels was fully fit, so it was purely a ‘technical decision’ to keep him on the bench.

With Roma 4-1 down and with Mario Hermoso sent off at the Stadio Franchi this evening, Juric finally let Hummels come on for Paulo Dybala at the 67th minute.

His first contribution in the Giallorossi jersey was to deflect a Christian Kouame header into his own net at the 71st minute, making the scoreline 5-1.
