Hummels remains in Germany with fever amid doubts over Roma future
The latest report from Corriere dello Sport highlights that the ex-Borussia Dortmund star is still not ready to start for the Giallorossi, not only due to his recent issue but also because he hasn’t reached the same fitness level as his teammates.
The veteran defender has only played 23 minutes for Roma since joining the club as a free agent in September.
Corriere dello Sport reported earlier this month that Hummels was ready to leave the capital if Ivan Juric remained at the club, but the defender’s future remains uncertain under Ranieri as well.
Hummels’ contract expires in June 2025, and if he continues struggling with playing time in the next month, he could ask to return to the Bundesliga in the winter transfer window.
The 35-year-old will start on the bench against Napoli on Sunday, while Mario Hermoso won’t be available. Therefore, Ranieri will likely pick a four-man defence with Gianluca Mancini and Evan N’dicka in central defence.
