Hooker Blake signs new Gloucester deal

Hooker Seb Blake has signed a new deal with Gloucester to stay at the club beyond this season.

The 23-year-old came through the club's academy to make his debut in 2021 and has gone on to play 56 games.

He has played in all 11 of the Cherry and Whites' Premiership matches this campaign and is due to captain the side during their upcoming block of Premiership Rugby Cup games.

"There's a good young group of us who have re-signed. I'm just pleased - supporting Gloucester my whole life it's definitely a good place to be," Blake told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"The way we're playing now we're trending in the right direction. Hopefully I can help the club build and hopefully win a few trophies."

Blake's new deal follows contract extensions by other young Cherry and White forwards Arthur Clark and Freddie Thomas in recent weeks, who like the hooker have progressed through the club pathway.

Scrum and assistant forwards coach Trevor Woodman, who is overseeing Gloucester's Premiership Rugby Cup games, said Blake's new deal was a "testament" to the work he had put in and his performances.

"He's been rewarded with that extension, which is great for us that he wants to commit to Gloucester as well," he said.

"We want young players that have got a future here with Gloucester, but also further up the tree with international rugby, to commit."
