Hitmen Pull Off Blockbuster, Acquire Mynio From The Thunderbirds

The Calgary Hitmen took another massive swing on Saturday, acquiring Vancouver Canucks prospect Sawyer Mynio from the Seattle Thunderbirds. Mynio recently returned from the 2025 World Juniors, where he played three games for Team Canada. In return for Mynio, the Thunderbirds received forward Sawyer Mayes, defender Linden Burrett, a first-round pick in 2025, a first-round pick in 2026, a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a fourth in 2026.

Mynio now joins a deep blue line that features three other NHL-drafted prospects. There are a few options where Mynio could play, but he is most likely to be partnered with either Calgary Flames prospect Carter Yakemchuk or Minnesota Wild prospect Kalem Parker. Calgary currently sits third in the Eastern Conference and has posted a record of 20-11-3-1 through 35 games.

As for Seattle, they received a massive haul in return. Listed at 6'4", 192lbs, Mayes is a 17-year-old center who has six points in 31 games this season. As for 18-year-old Burrett, he is a 6'1", 170lbs right-shot defenceman, who has one point in nine games this year. The main focus of this trade, however, is the draft picks, as the Thunderbirds continue to stock up ahead of the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft.
