Highway 99 in central California having flooding issues. Here’s what it looked like

A portion of Highway 99 was closed due on Friday following a break in a temporary levee that flooded the roadway.

On Friday morning, Caltrans reported the closures of northbound lanes at Lerdo Highway just outside Shafter with traffic being diverted off the highway at 7th Standard Road.

Pictures posted by the California Highway Patrol as the water was receding showed at least one lane fully flooded and debris scattered across the highway.

Two of the three lanes were reopened by mid-morning, though the other remained closed as crews cleared debris.

The California Highway Patrol cautioned those traveling through the area.

The north side of Highway 99 was closed around 9 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2023, at Lerdo Highway due to flooding on the roadway after a nearby levee broke, Caltrans said.
