Highly-rated Barcelona starlet signs first professional contract two days after 16th birthday

Earlier this summer, reports emerged that Barcelona had fought off significant interest from several European heavyweights to retain the services of Toni Fernandez, one of La Masia’s prized youngsters. On Wednesday, it was confirmed that the teenager will be continuing in Catalonia.

Barcelona have announced that Fernandez has signed his first professional contract, two days after his 16th birthday. The exciting attacking talent is expected to earn an in-house promotion for next season, and currently, he has been training with the first team, under the order of Hansi Flick.

Fernandez, who tends to operate as a striker or right winger, is incredibly highly-rated by Barcelona, which is why he is currently doing pre-season training with the first team. If he impresses Flick, there are chances of him to remain in and around the first team dynamic, with regular football at Barca Atletic also a strong option for the newly-turned 16-year-old.
