Highlighting A Big Day For Swede Samuel Fagemo

Early on Wednesday, the American Hockey League announced that Samuel Fagemo will represent the Ontario Reign at the all star game in early February.

Additionally, the Reign had a scheduled matchup with the Henderson Silver Knights later Wednesday night, setting up a storybook day for the Swede.

Leading up to the game, Fagemo had 18 goals and 7 assists, earning him the all star honors in the morning.

In what was a tightly contested matchup in Sin City between the Reign and Silver Knights, Ontario would find themselves in a 1-1 tie heading into overtime.

The Reign were on a double minor power play, allowing them to have a 4 on 3 man advantage to start overtime.

Of course, Glenn Gawdin, someone who was also very deserving of getting the all star honors, found Fagemo winding up his signature one-timer from the left circle, blasting a shot past Carl Lindbom to win the game in overtime.

After a dreadful start to the season, Fagemo has once again become one of the more prolific shooters in the AHL this season.

In the entire calendar year of 2024, Fagemo led the entire AHL in goals, scoring 46, 11 more than Hershey Bear Ethen Frank, who came in second with 35 goals.

It is very shocking that someone with the shot like Sammy’s isn’t in the NHL somewhere. He would make an immediate impact for any team that needs to bolster their power play units.

Selfishly, it is a blessing for the Reign that Fagemo completely cleared waivers and found himself back in Ontario the year after scoring 43 goals, breaking the franchise record.

After the game, Fagemo had this to say about the all star selection:

"It was huge for me and my family, I feel really proud and honored to be selected for the team."

Furthermore, Reign head coach Marco Sturm said, "That's why he is an all star", when speaking of Fagemo's overtime winner.

Can Sammy match the type of year he had last year? If he stays healthy, it is definitely doable. And knowing Fagemo, 43 goals is definitely a checkpoint goal he will want this year.
