Two Charlotte Observer-area teams are still alive in the NCHSAA volleyball playoffs.

▪ In 4A, Marvin Ridge (33-3) beat Northern Guilford (22-5) at home. The Mavericks won their 21st straight match, all by the same 3-0 score. On Tuesday night, they swept the match by scores of 25-17, 25-9 and 25-23.

Marvin Ridge will host the regional championship game Thursday at home against Winston-Salem’s Reagan High.

Reagan beat Lake Norman 3-1.

Marvin Ridge and Reagan met Aug. 17 in the North-South Invitational at Rock Hill, with the Mavericks winning 2-0 (25-23, 25-19). Natalie Unkirch and Ashley Murray each had 10 kills for Marvin Ridge in that match.

Marvin Ridge won the 2018 3A state championship, beating Greenville’s DH Conley High School. The Mavericks will be trying to reach the 4A final, the state’s most difficult class, for the first time.

No team from the western side of the bracket has won the 4A title since Ardrey Kell in 2012.

▪ In 3A, North Iredell (28-2) shut out Kings Mountain to advance. North Iredell will play at No. 1 seed West Henderson (24-2) Thursday. North Iredell and West Henderson last met in 2022, with the Warriors beating West Henderson 3-0. North Iredell went on to finish unbeaten and 3A champion that season.

North Iredell’s set victories Tuesday night were by scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 26-24.

North Iredell won the 3A state title in 2008, 2017 and 2022.
