"He's An Elite Player In The League": Canucks General Manager Speaks On Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, And More

As part of Prime Monday Night Hockey, Vancouver Canucks General Manager, Patrik Allvin, stopped by the panel to talk to hosts Adnan Virk, Blake Bolden, and Chris Pronger. He talked about Elias Pettersson, the play of Quinn Hughes, and Thatcher Demko.

The segment opened with Allvin discussing Hughes, who scored two goals in Vancouver's last game against the Washington Capitals.

"He's a big leader for us, and obviously one of the better defencemen in the league. Very dynamic, puck-moving, really good on the power play. He just continues to impress and improve that game."

As well, he explained the captain's importance to the team and how his remarkable season has influenced the team.

"Adam Foote and Sergei Gonchar worked along with him," Allvin said. "He craves coaching and wants to get better every day. As the team gets better, he's a big force in us getting better too."

When asked about any potential trades, Allvin clammed up as expected.

"I wouldn't comment on any rumours around there, but we're getting players back," he stated. "We'll see if there's anything that makes sense for us here over the next couple of weeks."

One part of the team that hasn't required much tailoring has been their goaltending. Allvin recognized that as well, complimenting both Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen for their combined efforts this season.

"We know Thatcher is a a top quality goalie in the league, and he was really good last year, and he's worked so hard to get better, to come back in game shape," he said. "Very fortunate to have Kevin Lankinen here as well."

He also made comments on Elias Pettersson, who has faced some criticism as of late due to his drop in offensive production.

"The coaches are working with him, and I think he is starting to move his feet more, be more involved holding on to pucks. I think the game is so fast now, especially through the middle. You need speed, and when he utilizes his speed and his hockey sense, he's an elite player in the league."
