Heroes Of The Deep: Seattle Pride Hockey Association
Seattle, WA - Monday night at Climate Pledge Arena, the Seattle Kraken hosted the New Jersey Devils for their annual Pride Night celebration. Although the Kraken lost 4-2 to the Devils, the evening's most impactful moment unfolded off the ice during a commercial break in the first period.
It was then that local hockey heroes Joey Gale and Steven Thompson, creators of the non-profit Seattle Pride Hockey Association (SPHA), were honored with the Heroes of the Deep Award. This recognition highlighted their significant contributions to both the sport and the LGBTQ+ community, underscoring the true spirit of the night.
SPHA's mission is "committed to promoting and advocating for diversity & inclusiveness in the Pacific Northwest ice hockey community."
Every summer SPHA hosts the world's largest three day LGBTQ+ ice hockey tournament called the Seattle Pride Classic. Now in its fifth year the Pride Classic brings together players, fans, allies and professional skaters from all over the globe with one goal, to make hockey inclusive for everyone.
Seattle Pride Hockey Association also hosts a Frozen Classic which takes place during the winter in Winthrop, Washington in an outdoor rink.
