Actor Henry Winkler on Thursday returned to the place where he first professed his love for the way Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes plays.

While on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Winkler was wearing the autographed Mahomes jersey the actor received before last year’s Chiefs-Chargers game.

Winkler recounted that meeting with Mahomes at SoFi Stadium and also being amazed by the Chiefs quarterback’s effort in Super Bowl LVII.

One person Winkler didn’t have a chance to meet at last year’s Chiefs-Chargers game was tight end Travis Kelce. Before the game, Kelce was spotted in a T-shirt with the words, “Football. Family. Fonzie.”

A photo of the shirt was shown while Eisen was talking with Winkler.

“That’s it but I now have it,” Winkler said of the shirt. “But I never got to meet this wonderful man who was incredible on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ Was he not unbelievable?”

Eisen agreed and then Winkler added: “He’s got that twinkle.”

Winkler also talked about wearing the Mahomes jersey while watching the Chiefs’ 38-35 victory over the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII. Like many people, Winkler was amazed by Mahomes’ 26-yard run in the fourth quarter on an injured ankle.

“To meet that young man, and then to watch him play (against Chargers) and then to watch him hurt,” Winkler said, “and then to watch him run six or seven miles with a hurt foot, a hurt ankle, in order to take his team, Mr. Kelce ... and all of those wonderful players to the promised land, I thought was touching, amazing, inspiring, and ... (he) never calls for dinner.”

Winkler has given an open invitation to Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, for dinner at the Winkler home in California.

Here is the conversation.
