Henderson Silver Knights Sign Former Second-Round Pick

The Henderson Silver Knights have signed former second-round pick Calen Addison to an AHL contract.

Addison was selected 53rd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2018 NHL draft. He was a standout offensive defenseman in the WHL and with Team Canada at the 2020 World Juniors, winning Gold and recording nine points.

Before he was able to make his NHL debut with the Penguins, they traded him to the Minnesota Wild. He went on to split his time with their AHL club, Iowa Wild before becoming a full-time NHLer in the 2022-23 season.

The San Jose Sharks acquired the 24-year-old from the Wild in exchange for Adam Raska and a 2026 fifth-round pick. He played in 72 games during the 2023-24 campaign scoring a goal and 17 points.

This offseason he signed a PTO with the Ottawa Senators but was released instead of signing a contract.

The Brandon, Manitoba native last played in the AHL during the 2021-22 season with the Iowa Wild. He has played in 77 AHL games with Iowa and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, posting 13 goals and 58 points.

Addison will provide the Silver Knights with offence from the blue line. Listed at just 5'11, 172 lbs, Addison is considered a small defenseman and has struggled to defend in his own end throughout his career. His offence has rarely been questioned and will likely shine brightly in the AHL.
