Heathwood Hall captures team, individual title at SCISA cross country meet

The Heathwood Hall girls cross country team extended its dominance on Saturday.

The Highlanders won their fourth straight state championship by taking first in the SCISA 4A meet.

Heathwood finished with 46 points, 13 more than runner-up Wilson Hall. Heathwood eighth grader Dorothy Hutchins (18:31) led the Highlanders with a second-place finish. Porter-Gaud eighth grader Morgan Howell finished first with a time of 18:11.

Heathwood seventh grader Cate Leppard (18:52) was sixth. Lydia Smith (19:28 was 12th and Annabel Martin (19:29) 13th.

Hammond’s Megan Joye finished fourth with a school-record 18:40. The Skyhawks’ Emme Crosland (19:01) was seventh. Hammond finished fourth as a team.

Northside Christian was fifth. The Crusaders’ Kaylee Thompson (19:27) was 11th.

Heathwood’s Jack Wilcox (15:42) won the boys race and Matthew Black (16:13) was fourth. The Highlanders finished fourth as a team.

Wilson Hall (71) won the team championship by one point over John Paul II.

Ben Lippen was fourth. The Falcons’ Jonathan Rios (16:29) was sixth, and Henry Naylor (17:00) was 10th. Northside’s Cade McNeill was 15th and Hammond’s Charlie Webb was 16th.

Richard Winn’s Hayden Brahnam (20:59) won the Class A girls race for the second straight year.

Other girls team champions were Spartanburg Christian (3A) and Our Lady of the Rosary (2A). Other boys team champions were Shannon Forest (3A) and Our Lady of the Rosary (2A).
