Heat building a statue for Dwyane Wade. Here are the details
The Heat announced Thursday that it will unveil a statue for Dwyane Wade on Sunday, Oct. 27 and honor him the next night during a home game against Detroit.
The bronze statue — designed by Rotblatt Armany Studio sculptors Omri Amrany and Oscar León — will be positioned outside Kaseya Center, in the front of the arena at the top of its steps.
The unveiling, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 5 p.m. Oct. 27 and include live performances from hip-hop legend Rick Ross and Nino Breeze. A ticket will be required for entry, but the Heat said tickets are extremely limited and will be made available at 3 p.m. Sept. 30.
Wade will address the Kaseya Center crowd at halftime of the game against the Detroit Pistons on Oct. 28; that’s 21 years to the date of his first NBA game. The “Wade-themed game night” will feature video tributes. Tickets for the game are available for purchase at heat.com.
Rotblatt Amrany Studio, which will create the statue, is the leading artistic team behind seven inconic sports statues, including the “Michael Jordan Spirit” in Chicago, the Kobe Bryant “Black Mamba” statue and the recently unveiled “Kobe and Gianna Bryant Memorial Statue” in Los Angeles.
Wade, who ranks 34th in NBA history with 23,165 career points, was named All-NBA eight times (including two appearances on the first team), was invited to the All-Star Game 13 times, won the 2009 scoring title, captured the 2006 NBA Finals MVP and won three NBA championships.
He played his first 13 seasons with the Heat — which drafted him fifth overall in 2003 — before spending a year with the Bulls after Wade and the Heat couldn’t agree on a new contract. He then spent half a season with the Cleveland Cavaliers before Miami acquired him at the 2018 NBA trade deadline.
He spent his final 1 1/2 seasons with the Heat before retiring.
Wade is the Heat’s all-time leader in more than a dozen significant categories, including points scored in a Heat uniform (21,556) and games played (948).
