“From what I hear…”: Ex-Man United assistant manager says Erik ten Hag “doesn’t have long left” at the club

Former Manchester United chief scout and assistant manager Mick Brown has revealed that he’s heard murmurs that Erik ten Hag’s sacking is imminent.

Ten Hag is currently under intense pressure following United’s disastrous 0-3 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Red Devils were second best for most of their embarrassing loss to Ange Postecoglou’s men, with Bruno Fernandes given his marching orders after Brennan Johnson had given the North London outfit an early lead.

Two further goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke in the second half all but secured the three points for Spurs. It could have been much worse for United but a number of top saves from Andre Onana kept the scoreline from becoming truly embarrassing.

The result has led to renewed speculation over Ten Hag’s position at the club, despite his insistence that he is not at all worried about his future.

Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic reported that the Dutchman has the next two games, vs. Porto and Aston Villa respectively, to save his job.

Brown spoke to Football Insider and revealed that Ten Hag “doesn’t have long left” at the club from what he’s hearing from his sources.

The ex-United scout and assistant manager is described by Football Insider as “well-connected” to the Reds, following a decade of loyal service.

Brown told the news outlet, “From what I hear, he doesn’t have long left, the way things are going.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised by whatever happens, but getting rid of the manager at this time of year means they’ll have to find a replacement quickly. But they will feel they’ve got to put a marker down in the sand.”

“They need to show the players, the supporters, and everybody else that this isn’t good enough and they won’t put up with it.”

He added, “That’s the statement they want to make – this has not been good enough. They’d be doing that if they were to let him go.”

“Ten Hag is coming up with the same stuff every week and it’s not working. That will be a major concern for the club.”

Porto vs. United kicks off on Thursday at 20:00 BST.
