📸 Headbutts and studs up! Red cards take centre stage in Copa América
There were two major talking points in the Copa América on Tuesday evening as Matchday 2 kicked off.
Things were fairly feisty during Canada and Peru’s group stage clash at Children’s Mercy Park and then turned dramatic just before the break.
Players Alistair Johnston and Marcos López exchanged heated words on the touchline. Tempers flared, and the Peruvian defender then leaned in and headbutted his opponent.

However – even while the incident went to VAR, Lopez evaded a red card, leaving Peru relieved and Canada fuming.
But it didn’t last long, as minutes into the second half, Peru did, in fact, drop to 10 men.
Miguel Araujo was sent off after VAR ruled his tackle on Jacob Shaffelburg too aggressive.
