Harvey Elliott has let on that not everything Arne Slot has said about his new Liverpool side is true. Things could look very different.

Harvey Elliott gave an interview to the Athletic this week where he talked about the state of Liverpool right now. It's the biggest upheaval in years, after all, and all things considered, one of the biggest the club has ever been through.

A new head coach, new coaching staff, a new sporting director - even the football side of FSG has undergone a restructuring. As CEO Billy Hogan puts it, Liverpool have undergone a reboot.

And Elliott is certainly seeing that. He talked about the playing style under Slot, making it clear that things will be very different under the new boss.

“The style of play is a lot different, it’s more about in possession now, very elegant,” Elliott says. “It’s been really enjoyable. We’re three weeks into pre-season and the details we’ve learned and the depth we’re going into is really interesting.

“The gaffer’s style is about keeping the ball, one touch and two touch, but I’m not going to give away all the details."

And that's interesting to hear - because it's virtually the opposite of what Slot's been saying.

Arne Slot's playing style

“Many things will stay the same when it comes to playing style,” Slot said recently ahead of Liverpool's friendly against Real Betis.

“Of course there will be a few adjustments because every manager has his own ideas, but the general playing style will probably look quite familiar for you guys.”

Slot - and all of Liverpool's staff, in fact - has pushed the idea that his arrival won't change all that much. Liverpool picked him because he'll simply continue what Jurgen Klopp did but with minor changes.

That's not the message from the players, however, who seem to believe there are much bigger changes afoot. Maybe it's simply a case of the players feeling every subtle change more than anyone else, or perhaps it's because they've been playing the same style (pretty much) for the entire time they've been at Liverpool.

Or maybe Liverpool are going to be a very different side next season - more than Slot is letting on. After all, he won't want his Premier League opponents to know what's coming.
