'I Happy We Win. Go Home': Pyotr Kochetkov, Dmitry Orlov, Rod Brind'Amour On Win Over Washington

The Carolina Hurricanes brought the win streak to six with a 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals Sunday night at Lenovo Center.

Dmitry Orlov scored twice and Martin Necas and Andrei Svechnikov also both lit the lamp while Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 19 in the win.

After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour along with Orlov and Kochetkov spoke with the media. Here's what they had to say:

Rod Brind'Amour

On the game:
I thought for 60 minutes... I mean, they obviously had the last little bit of the first period where we took those couple of penalties back-to-back which happens almost never like that. Thought we did almost a great job killing that and then had an almost breakaway on that, unfortunately it got to the wrong guy and he doesn't need much. We've seen that a 100 million times. Then at the end of the period, that was just a bad bounce. We had it and we were going the other way, just missed it and all of a sudden you're down after having a pretty good period. Give the guys a lot of credit because they just turned the page and went at it the rest of the way. I thought we were pretty solid.

On if it's difficult to establish the unfazed mentality that the team seems to always have: I think if your game isn't really solid, then it is, but the guys understood that we were going pretty well and we were getting a lot of opportunities. We just had to get back to doing that. There was really no other choice. Like I said though, the guys in there have been around and they get it.

On Dmitry Orlov: He's got a heavy shot. We'd love for him to shoot more. Sometimes he starts doing other things with it, but when he gets those opportunities, to one-time it especially, he's got a heavy, heavy shot and you saw that tonight.

On Pyotr Kochetkov: [The breakaway save on Ovechkin] was the big save of the game really, for me, because we were going, getting tons of chances — and their goalie played great. He kept them in it — and then, we let him get loose and it's the wrong guy to be getting loose. But [Kochetkov] made a heck of a save there and then even a couple of tricky ones at the end there. They didn't seem like it because they shot them from such bad angles, but the way he shoots it, he had to be sharp.

On the dominant play over a team that had been playing very well: I think it probably had a lot to do with the fact that they did play last night. We played pretty hard, but I give our guys credit. We came in with a pretty good game plan on it and I thought they stuck with it even with having a bit of a setback in the first.

On Martin Necas: It's weird. To say his game is different or anything, it's just what he does. He has that ability because his skating is so good and now you can definitely see the confidence in him, but I think he's doing a lot of other things right too. He's certainly... you don't see the high, high risk stuff, but if he has the opportunity to go, he has the ability to go and do it. Obviously he's been real special here to start the season.

On the amount of 5-on-3 penalty kills the team has had to face: We don't like getting practice at it, that's for sure. But I thought we did a nice job, it's just that they got the one shot off and that's all she wrote.

Pyotr Kochetkov

On stopping Alex Ovechkin on the breakaway:
It was lucky. I wait for shot. He see I go down, goes to backhand and I'm just lucky it touched stick, no score. He scored on me last season.

On staying focused when play is on the other end of the ice so much: It's always tough. I try to stay focused and think about the next shot. Sometimes you feel the game when no lots of shots and sometimes when no shot, you're a little bit cold. It's f--king garbage. The ideas... Today, I feel not bad. Guys had lots of work today. Capitals had back-to-back. We play more time in their zone. [Charlie] Lindgren had lots of work today. I happy we win, go home.

On Ovechkin pointing at him after he scored: Every time he tells me lots of bad words. 'I scored, I scored.' All Russians do this. It's no problems to me.

Dmitry Orlov

On facing his old team:
It's not easy, mentally, and it's emotional. 12 years. I played with some of those guys and I respect them a lot as a human being and as a player. It's special and it's an important win for us. We've had a good stretch winning six games and we've always had a good start so just keep doing that and build from there.

On his goals: Necas made two nice plays to set me up and I shot them and the puck went in. It's always nice, but it was important to have a good game, especially with them having a back-to-back. Just put pucks on net.

On his close friend Alex Ovechkin: He's one of the best goal scorers in the league and he's a legend and a nice friend. It sucks that he scored today, but another one to chase the record and I'm happy for him.

On the team's offensive pressure: You have to stick with him and get close to him to make sure he's not shooting, but also you have to see what's going on on the ice and make a read if something breaks up.

On Pyotr Kochetkov: He did good today. He's a good goalie and when we needed saves, he did a good job today. It's important. It's how you win your games. Goalie is the last person who cannot make a mistake.

On Martin Necas: He's got a lot of talent and he has his confidence and is playing great. It's great for us. All the lines played good today. It's not easy to win six in a row and we did a good job. We've got two more home games, so we need them, especially the division games. It's rivals all the time and we need to keep focused and not be too happy. Move on, forget and try to have fun and play for each other.
