Barcelona begin a new era today as Hansi Flick starts the pre-season camp at Ciutat Esportiva, taking charge of the team for the first time after replacing Xavi Hernandez as manager.

The German tactician has a huge task on his hands to take Barça back to the top after a disappointing season last time out which ended without any trophy.

Demands are always high at Barcelona and even though Flick is taking over in circumstances that are far from ideal, he will be expected to deliver titles.

And, according to journalist Alex Pintanel, the manager has drawn up a three-point plan based on which he intends to deliver titles to the club.

Count on La Masia

The first ingredient in Hansi Flick’s recipe for success at Barcelona is to continue to trust in La Masia. The German knows how important the youngsters from the academy are going to be in the current delicate economic context.

During difficult times under Ronald Koeman and then Xavi, the Barça academy came to their help – with players like Gavi, Alejandro Balde, Lamine Yamal, and Pau Cubarsi exploding.

Now, other talents like Hector Fort, Marc Casado, Marc Bernal, and Mikayil Faye are expected to follow in their footsteps and step up for Barcelona.

Xavi, during his tenure as manager, always stressed on having two quality players for each position on the field. Now, Flick also considers it essential to fight for titles and increase the competitiveness of the squad in the face of a busy schedule.

The German coach met with Deco in the past few days to discuss transfer plans and they agreed on the sentiment that: “We have to double positions.”

In this scenario, the role of the academy players could again become crucial. Flick does not want the squad to suffer as it did last season. The number of injuries reduced the squad’s potential at decisive moments.

Sign Nico Williams

The final point in Flick’s plan is the signing of Athletic Club and Spain winger Nico Williams, with whom Barcelona are understood to have already reached an agreement in principle.

Barcelona president Laporta will do everything in his power to sign Nico, but for that, it is essential to recover financially as soon as possible, considering he has a €58 million release clause.

In addition, the Blaugrana are also looking for a top pivot midfielder, with Joshua Kimmich understood to be at the top of the list.
