It was a memorable night for FC Barcelona against Bayern Munich as the Catalan club secured a 4-1 victory. One can’t remember the last time the team put in such a convincing performance against a European giant in the Champions League.

Hansi Flick has truly transformed this club and last night was further evidence of why Barcelona are one of the favorites for both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League this season. Hattrick hero Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski were the goalscorers for the Spanish club on the night.

After years of disappointment and humbling defeats to Bayern Munich, almost a decade after beating them back in 2015, Barcelona finally broke the curse of losing to the German giants and they did it with some style.

Head coach Hansi Flick, normally not one to show too much emotion after a game, was visibly happy after the 4-1 win over his former club team. As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, here is what the German had to say about the victory and how it could help the team against Real Madrid. He said:

“This victory is incredible, Bayern is a wonderful team, with fantastic players who know how to play very well, you want to see them play. And of course, if you win this type of match you have to celebrate. This victory gives us confidence to believe in our quality for the match coming up on Saturday.”

Yes, that’s right. Barcelona don’t have time to rest on their laurels as the all-important El Clasico is set to take place this weekend in Madrid. Fans will be hoping that the team can build on this performance against their league rivals.

Until last night, there was hope that Hansi Flick’s Barcelona could perform against a big team, but now there is proof. As a result, expectations for the team in El Clasico have increased significantly, as the Catalan club looks to go six points clear of Madrid in the league.

What Hansi Flick has done at Barcelona cannot be understated. For many seasons now, the team has looked incapable of matching their opposition physically but last night against Bayern, they were better than their German counterparts.

A victory over Real Madrid in the Clasico this weekend will take Barcelona to a whole new pedestal. It remains to be seen how the game pans out and hopefully, the Blaugrana fans have one more reason to celebrate this weekend.
