Hansi Flick details how he plans to move away from Barcelona’s ‘traditional’ playing style

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick this week provided an insight into the manner in which he intends to alter the playing style of his new side.

As much comes with the German eyeing a more direct approach on the part of the Blaugrana.

Barca, for decades now, have of course been synonymous with beautiful football, keeping alive the ethos of the legendary Johan Cruyff.

This involves a free-flowing brand of pass-and-move exploits on the part of the club’s stars, wearing down opposing backlines through touch, movement, and exploitation of space.

Speaking in an interview with Barca One this week, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of as much was put to the latest installation on the Camp Nou bench.

Hansi Flick, however, was not shy in revealing his intention to somewhat alter this approach.

This comes with the German keen to implement a more direct route to goal, a shift which he is hopeful will ultimately culminate in Barcelona finding the net with more frequency moving forward:

“Here, the tradition is to play touch and chain passes to create space. I want them to focus on getting to the goal sooner, to focus a little more on scoring goals.”
