Haaland’s 10 City hat-tricks so far
Erling Haaland was at his scintillating best as City came from behind to beat Ipswich 4-1 in our latest Premier League assignment.
After Sammie Szmodics handed the Tractor Boys a surprise lead at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s side fought back with three quick-fire goals ahead of half-time before extending our advantage after the interval.
Of those four goals, the clinical Norwegian frontman scored three and Kevin De Bruyne netted his first of the season as we maintained our 100% start to the season.
Haaland’s treble remarkably represented his 10th since he joined the Club in the summer of 2022 – achieving the feat in just 101 outings.
Here we take a look at each hat-trick and the numbers behind his latest incredible milestone.
FIRST
Haaland’s first City hat-trick came in another comeback – on that occasion it was against Crystal Palace as we fought from two goals down to win 4-2 at the start of the 2022/23 term.
Having trailed at the interval, the forward bagged a 19-minute treble after Bernardo Silva’s deflected effort halved the deficit shortly after half-time.
The 24-year-old headed Phil Foden’s cross home before poking John Stones’ effort into the net.
Haaland then claimed the match ball when he latched onto a precise Ilkay Gundogan pass before shrugging off Joel Ward to round off the scoring.

COMPETITIONS
Across Haaland’s 10 hat-tricks for City, it’s perhaps unsurprising that the majority of those have arrived in the Premier League.
In total, he’s scored seven in the Premier League, two in the FA Cup and one in the Champions League.
When claiming match balls, he’s scored 35 goals and has netted five times twice in wins over RB Leipzig and Luton while also scoring four in a triumphant victory over Wolves.
CUTTING THROUGH FOREST
As the Norwegian started to dominate Premier League proceedings after his fast start to life in the competition, his second treble soon arrived during a home fixture with Nottingham Forest in August 2022.
It took him only 38 minutes to complete his hat-trick at the Etihad across 19 first-half minutes.
He broke the deadlock after a Foden cross, doubled his tally when showing his poacher’s instinct to tap home from close range before he nodded home Stones’ flick for his third.
The scoring was then completed by Joao Cancelo and Julian Alvarez as we recorded a superb 6-0 win.

PREMIER LEAGUE
Haaland is now joint-seventh in the list of all-time Premier League hat-tricks after raising his tally to seven.
He’s now matched former Manchester United and Everton striker Wayne Rooney’s total and is only behind Harry Kane, Thierry Henry and Michael Owen who are all on eight and Robbie Fowler (nine), Alan Shearer (11) and Sergio Aguero (12).
DERBY DELIGHT
In what was his first Manchester derby, Haaland lit up the Etihad alongside Foden, both scoring hat-tricks in a 6-3 success.
The Norwegian headed to double our lead 11 minutes before the interval before he gobbled up De Bruyne’s mouth-watering cross on the cusp of the break.
Following half-time, he then slammed Sergio Gomez’s cross home to claim one of two match balls – the other going to Foden.

EVENLY SPREAD
Interestingly, the goals that make up Haaland’s hat-tricks have almost been split evenly across first and second halves.
Across his 35 goals in 10 trebles, 18 have come before half-time with 17 following the break.
TAMING WOLVES
With City relentlessly pursuing the Treble in 2022/23, his hat-trick against Wolves in January 2023's 3-0 win helped us en route to a third straight Premier League crown.
He broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time when heading De Bruyne’s cross into the net before dispatching a penalty after the break. Hs then swept the third goal home after Riyad Mahrez retrieved possession inside the box.

FOX IN THE BOX
It’s no secret Haaland is one of world football’s deadliest finishers inside the box.
This is further exemplified after 34 of his 35 goals across his 10 hat-tricks have been scored from inside the area.
His only goal within a hat-trick which was from outside the box came in his latest against Ipswich at the Etihad Stadium.
EUROPEAN STAGE
City’s Champions League second-leg fixture with RB Leipzig was another night to remember for Haaland when he scored a staggering five goals in a 7-0 success as we progressed to he quarter-finals.
By doing so, he became the fastest player to reach 30 goals in the competition. Lionel Messi and Brazilian Luiz Adriano are the only other players to score five goals in a Champions League fixture.

FROM THE SPOT
When claiming his 10 match balls for City so far, only six goals of his 35 have been scored from penalties.
That’s an average of 17% of his strikes in trebles coming from the spot.
UP FOR THE CUP
A meeting with Burnley in a 2023 FA Cup quarter-final tie saw City reunited with Vincent Kompany who was at the Clarets helm.
After even opening exchanges, Haaland bagged a hat-trick in an eventual 6-0 success. He latched onto a diagonal ball, showcasing his pace to squeeze the ball into the net for his first.
It took only three minutes until he had his second when the Norwegian lifted the ball past an onrushing Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
He then showed his poacher’s instinct for his third when the ball kissed the post from Foden’s shot and Haaland was in the right place to apply a first-time finish.

SEVEN HEAVEN
Although he’s tied with Rooney on seven Premier League hat-tricks, Haaland achieved the total quicker than England’s second-highest scorer of all time.
The Norwegian hit seven trebles in the league after 68 appearances, meanwhile Rooney’s seventh came in his 471st Premier League outing during Everton’s 4-0 win over West Ham in November 2017.
STARTING STRONGLY
City made it four wins from four at the start of the 2023/24 season thanks to Haaland’s hat-trick in a 5-1 home win over Fulham.
After first-half goals from Julian Alvarez and Nathan Ake, the Norwegian struck three after the break – his first coming after he received the ball from the Argentine and provided a fine first-time finish.
He then doubled his personal tally from the penalty spot before completing his treble when slamming home Gomez’s cut-back.

ESTEEMED COMPANY
By scoring his seventh Premier League hat-trick for City, Haaland closed the gap in second to Sergio Aguero who has the most in the competition for the Club with 12.
The Norwegian now has two more than Raheem Sterling (five) – completing the top five is Carlos Tevez (four) and Foden (three).
CUP CLASS
Haaland’s incredible second five goal-haul in a match came in a 6-2 victory over Luton in the FA Cup in February 2024.
He’d already scored three before the break before adding two after the interval alongside Mateo Kovacic’s strike at Kenilworth Road.

WOLVES… AGAIN
Wolves are currently the only team Haaland has scored two hat-tricks against during his time at City so far.
In a crucial 5-1 success over Gary O’Neil’s side as we closed in on a fourth straight Premier League crown, he scored four with three arriving before half-time.
His fourth came nine minutes after the interval before Alvarez netted on 85 minutes.

LATEST
Last but certainly not least, Haaland’s latest hat-trick of course came in our 4-1 win over Ipswich Town in our previous assignment.
Sammie Szmodics broke the deadlock for the visitors but the Norwegian equalised with an expert penalty, given following a review into a foul on new boy Savinho.
After the Brazilian set up De Bruyne, Haaland made it 3-1 after rounding Arijanet Muric before firing home.
Then, after the break, the 24-year-old rounded off the scoring with a classy finish from range.
