‘What a guy’: Jurrien Timber reacts to transfer news coming out of Arsenal

Jurrien Timber has sent his reaction on Instagram after Arsenal confirmed the departure of Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham on a permanent deal.

Smith Rowe made 115 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions and he has now chosen a new challenge away with Marco Silva’s side.

The 24-year-old has the chance to revive his career after managing less than 700 minutes in the last two seasons under manager Mikel Arteta.

His transfer to Fulham has led to plenty of reactions from players and fans, and Timber was quick to praise him on his Instagram stories yesterday.

He posted: ‘What a guy man’.

Smith Rowe was a fringe player for the last two years. Injuries played a big part during the 2022/23 season which allowed Gabriel Martinelli to establish himself on the left wing.

The arrival of Leandro Trossard added extra competition. Smith Rowe also failed to break into the starting line-up from the number 10 role with the presence of captain Martin Odegaard.

He was tried in central midfield on a few occasions last term, but was not entirely convincing. The playmaker has the chance to redeem himself with regular minutes at Fulham.

His departure is likely to coincide with Arsenal purchasing a new midfielder. The club have agreed terms with Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino and are determined to secure his services.

Merino is a different profile to Smith Rowe. He is vastly experienced at 28. The Spaniard has the ability to make goal contributions, but is better known for his strong defensive attributes.
