Guernsey FC stay in drop zone after Moneyfields defeat
Guernsey FC remain in the relegation places in Isthmian League South Central after losing 4-1 at in-form Moneyfields.
Guernsey went a goal behind after 14 minutes when James Franklyn converted the rebound after Ciaran Martin's shot was saved.
Brandon Wallace went close for Guernsey soon after, but the islanders were 2-0 down in the 33rd minute as Callum Laycock converted a low cross at the near post.
Guernsey should have pulled a goal back after an hour when Wallace was fouled in the box, but Charlton Gauvain saw his penalty saved by Callum Smart.
Moneyfields had won each of their previous eight matches but were made to sweat after Simon Arnold powerfully struck his first Guernsey goal from a tight angle with 23 minutes to go.
But they restored their two-goal lead six minutes later when Lawrence Cooper converted a Martin cross at the far post before Jafer Mahhammedkier made it 4-1 with a tap-in in the final minute.
The loss leaves the Green Lions third-from-bottom of the table, a point from safety.
"I'm feeling really proud of the players and actually quite pleased, the performance was excellent," Guernsey FC coach Steve Sharman said.
"It's one of those games - you can sometimes wear rose-tinted glasses as a coach, but a draw would have been a fair result," he told BBC Radio Guernsey.
"We missed a penalty, we then scored after that, that would have made it 2-2 with the penalty miss and they got one right at the end, which was which a sort of bonus goal for them.
"But against a team that hasn't lost in eight games, and is on an unbelievable run, our players really stood up to them."
