Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was among a group of 450 early-morning Glastonbury joggers last weekend, dividing opinion as to what is acceptable festival behaviour.

Bristol organisation Ravers2Runners put on a 450-strong 5 kilometre run at Glastonbury over the weekend with BBC News posting footage of the event on Saturday.

While Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA were headliners on the main stage, campers took time out from a hedonistic weekend for a spot of keep-fit, including ex-Red Jamie Carragher.

The former defender-turned-pundit was decked out in the threads of the Marsh Lane Harriers, stopping to talk to the BBC about the run.

“I’m just a runner not a raver,” he said, while also wearing a Barcelona cap. “Getting ready for the run now. So it’s Marsh Lane Harriers. That’s our running club, my brother’s running club. Right I’m off!”

It wasn’t to everybody’s tastes with many in the comments on Instagram poking fun at the joggers.

“What kind of Waitrose card-holding weekend glampers go to a music festival having packed a running kit? Oh wait,” one wrote.

“Running at Glastonbury? Get a grip…” said another.

“What on earth has happened to this festival, someone take me back to the 90’s when it was still good!” wrote a third.

However there were also plenty of people defending the exercise enthusiasts.

“For everyone being a hater in the comments, just let people live man!” one said. “If this isn’t something you’d enjoy doing or see the benefit from, then that’s totally cool. But these people do and want to run at Glastonbury so why shouldn’t they!”

Carragher is a long-time devotee of the festival and posted a picture of his family and friends together on Worthy Farm last week.

Also among the performers were Shania Twain, LCD Soundsystem and Burna Boy.

Some acts including Janelle Monae saw a severely depleted audience as fans huddled around phones and television screens elsewhere on site in order to catch the England - Slovakia Euro 2024 round of 16 game.
