The question of greatest player in international soccer or futbol seldom is complicated. It’s almost always:

Lionel Messi? Or Cristiano Ronaldo? (The order there is alphabetical based on surname.)

The parameter for the aging megastars could probably be all-time, but certainly applies to greatest of their generation. These are the quintessential sports rivals of their time.

The question of who’s greater arose anew this week when Wayne Rooney, who has played against both, was asked and chose Messi. Millions around the globe would agree -- and disagree.
