Greg Biffle wins pole for Daytona
Greg Biffle will start first Saturday night at the site of his first Sprint Cup Series win.
Biffle ran the fastest lap in the first and second rounds of qualifying Friday at Daytona and will start with former teammate Carl Edwards on the front row. Kyle Busch, who crashed in practice earlier in the day and was forced to qualify and race a backup car, was third in that backup car and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will start fourth.
It’s the first pole for Biffle since he won it at Charlotte in 2012 and his 13th overall. He’s never won from the first starting position; his best finish after starting first is a third at Dover in 2008.
Biffle won the 2003 July race at Daytona for his first of 19 career Cup wins by leading the last 21 laps of the race. The final 81 laps went green and Biffle won as green flag pit stops jumbled up the field.
Here’s how the rest of the field will line up. Josh Wise was the only driver that did not qualify.
