Gossip: Arsenal 'plan £100m raid for Werner and Fekir', Liverpool 'want Wanyama', Iniesta's '£31m-a-year deal'

Arsenal are quite cute really. Despite all the bad things that have happened to them – missing out the Champions League, losing their best player for peanuts, almost certainly missing out on the Champions League again – they are still determined to enjoy life. Like a widowed pensioner with crippling arthritis who insists on going to the tea dance every Thursday night. Or in Arsene Wenger’s case, the Europa League fixture.

One of the things that is keeping the Gunners upbeat in these bleak times is some good old-fashioned retail therapy, and they are reportedly about to go shopping again for two of Europe’s hottest young stars.

The goalscoring exploits of Timo Werner, the 21-year-old RB Leipzig striker, have piqued the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs over the past 18 months, and now Arsenal want him too.

The Sun says Wenger has “joined the race” to sign the £50m-rated German goal machine, who has rejected the energy drink franchise’s latest contract offer, presumably because he wants to play for a proper football team.

Werner seems an unusual target given that Arsenal aren’t currently able to accommodate the two big-money strikers they already have, while rival interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool could also scupper their chances. But at least the Gunners are getting out of the house and getting involved in life, bless them.

And it’s not just Werner on Wenger’s radar. The Mail says the Frenchman’s “No 1 target” for the summer transfer window is Lyon’s attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir.

The 24-year-old, who has been compared to France legend Youri Djorkaeff, is valued at around £45m by the Ligue 1 side. Although having seen Alexandre Lacazette join Arsenal last summer (only to be replaced after six months), Lyon might not fancy letting yet another star player move to the Emirates.

Still, Wenger is reportedly keen to get a deal tied up before the World Cup, when Fekir is expected to star for France and could potentially become more expensive.

Liverpool monitor Wanyama situation

Across north London, the Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama has allegedly been on the receiving end of some admiring glances from Jurgen Klopp.

The Mail says Liverpool are “monitoring” the 26-year-old Kenyan amid uncertainty over the future of Emre Can, who has been linked with Juventus on a daily basis for about a year.

Man Utd and Chelsea are have also apparently “taken note” that Wanyama has been used sparingly by Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino this season and might be worthy a cheeky bid.

Meanwhile, Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta is tempted by an offer to join Chinese side Tianjin Quanjian at the end of the season, according to Spanish paper Diario Sport. And the reason he’s tempted is because they are allegedly offering him take-home pay of £31m a year.

Elsewhere, Man Utd are “keeping tabs” on Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri, who has a release clause of £33m and was watched by Old Trafford scouts this week (Mail), Everton striker Sandro Ramirez, who is on loan at Sevilla, has told the Toffees he does not ever want to return to Merseyside (Mirror) and West Brom manager Alan Pardew is facing the sack after four of his senior players misbehaved on a club tour to Barcelona (Sun). Maybe he should stay out there and become a taxi driver.
