There’s good news on the K-State football injury report ahead of West Virginia game
Kansas State football coach Chris Klieman is cautiously optimistic that the Wildcats will have a healthy roster when they play West Virginia on Saturday night at Milan Puskar Stadium.
“Nobody is ruled out, which is good,” Klieman said during his weekly news conference on Monday. “I don’t think many will practice today, but nobody has been ruled out. We probably got better news on a couple of the guys. It may be closer to Wednesday before we know. But I anticipate everybody having a really good shot to play.”
That is good news for a K-State football roster that was not at full strength when it put the finishing touches on a 31-28 victory against Colorado over the weekend.
At the end of that game, the Wildcats were missing several key defenders due to injuries. And a handful of other players were slowed down by various ailments.
Starting safety Marques Sigle and starting cornerback Jacob Parrish both missed action against Colorado with undisclosed injuries. Keenan Garber had to leave the game with cramps but fought his way back onto the field and made some key plays late.
K-State’s secondary is not the same without those key players. For now, it sounds like they might not miss any more action.
On offense, quarterback Avery Johnson was limited as a runner after he took a hit to his side. He was briefly removed from the game and taken to the locker room for evaluation, but he returned to action and closed out the night with several clutch plays.
He is expected to be fine moving forward, but there were some nervous moments during the game.
“It was kind of weird,” Johnson said. “I’ve never been in that situation before. Ultimately, I just wanted to get back on the field with my guys and I was able to get to that point. I was just grateful to get back out there and finish the game, put on a full performance.”
