Golfer Thomas Pieters snaps yet another club, this time over his neck
You’ve probably never played golf with Thomas Pieters, but you’ve definitely played in a foursome with somebody like him. You know the one who launches his 5-iron into the nearest pond every time he doesn’t like a shot. And he doesn’t like a lot of shots. He’s really one of your classic golf guys.
Pieters’ take on this classic art form is majestic. After his second shot on the par-5 fourth hole at the European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship sailed wide, the 26-year-old Belgian snapped an iron over his neck with the ease of a man who has sent his fair share of golf clubs to the clubhouse dumpster.

This isn’t the first time Pieters has snapped a club like a celery stick. On the 11th hole of the 2016 British Open, he snapped another iron over his knee, throwing the remnants into the woods in disgust.
Pieters also snapped a driver on his knee midway through his third round at the 2017 HNA French Open, before posting three birdies on the back nine without it. He’s basically the Bo Jackson of golf.
“I didn’t get to what, No. 23 in the world, by not being that,” Pieters told reporters in April. “It’s part of me. I get mad but, like you said, it fuels me. Sometimes it doesn’t, and I have to watch out for that.”
At least Pieters salvaged the hole
Stunningly, Pieters still made par on the fourth at Britain’s Wentworth Club on Friday. Much of his frustration surely came from bogeying two of his first three holes after shooting a three-over 75 the day before, falling below the projected cut. Even without one of his clubs for the final 14 holes, he finished Friday’s round with an even- par 72. Then again, he’s accustomed to playing without a full bag.
As someone who probably broke a controller when playing video game golf with my brother as a kid, I can only imagine how frustrated Pieters might get if he played golf as poorly as the rest of us.

In addition to snapping clubs left and right, the former NCAA champion at the University of Illinois has made headlines for ridiculing fellow golfers for tweeting nonsense and his distaste for Americans.
“We have talked about it (playing in the US) a little bit,” fellow Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts once said of his close friend in 2016. “I don’t think he would want to be surrounded by Americans 365 days a year.
“People think that because he went to the US that he only wants to play the PGA Tour, but he has shown at the Ryder Cup, with his shushing of the crowd and the way he plays, that he doesn’t like them that much.”
Pieters placed fourth at last year’s Masters. This year he broke a driver over his knee on the final hole.
