Golden Knights to get parade regardless of Stanley Cup Final result
Update: Clark County has “scrapped” the parade proposal from its agenda at the team’s request, which should come as no surprise at all.
Organically assembling an legitimate, enthusiastic and lasting fan base on their way to an otherwise impossible trip the Stanley Cup Final, the Vegas Golden Knights’ expansion season, to this point, has been flawless.
That could change in a matter of days.
Not because they are teetering on the verge of a loss to the Washington Capitals in the NHL’s championship series. There’s no shame in that. But because there are plans to throw a celebratory parade regardless of the Stanley Cup Final’s outcome.

Clark County commissioners are set to approve plans Tuesday for a parade between Sahara and Tropicana avenues to celebrate the team’s Stanley Cup run in its inaugural season.
“It’s been an incredible season and a great ride,” Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak said last week discussing a possible parade. “This will be history that will never be repeated.”
Golden Knights fans have every reason to celebrate the expansion team’s season and, whether or not they win another game, the players have earned the right to blow off steam and enjoy all that has been forbidden to this point on the Vegas strip.
But throwing a championship parade without a championship? C’mon.
Also, making plans “to celebrate the success of the franchise” just as the club gets its first taste of adversity? Double c’mon.
Besides, forcing players to stand on floats and waive (in 100-degree heat, mind you) hours after having their hearts broken, well, that would be cruel.
To acknowledge coming up just short of the most incredible team achievement in North American professional sports history, a rally will do.
