Golden Knights Forward William Karlsson Named To Team Sweden For 2025 4 Nations Face-Off

Christmas is still three weeks away, but the joyous season has already been kind to Golden Knights forward William Karlsson, showering the Swedish-born NHL veteran with plenty of holiday tidings.

The blessings continued Wednesday when he was officially named to Sweden’s roster for the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off.

"It's a great honor, obviously, to be a part of Team Sweden," Karlsson said. "All the best players are playing, huge honor."

After being by his wife's side during the birth of their second child, he was able to be home among friends and family for Thanksgiving. One night later he made what could be the pass of the season (thus far) in a 4-3 win over league-leading Winnipeg.

"I got some extra time with family since I went home," Karlsson said. "It's great to be home and be with your kids and loved ones."

The 4 Nations Face-Off will be a round-robin tournament featuring teams comprised of NHL players from Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the United States.

The event will take place in Boston and Montreal from Feb. 12-20. Karlsson joins head coach Bruce Cassidy, who will be serving as an assistant coach for Canada, and forward Jack Eichel, who was previously named as one of the first six players for the United States, as representatives from Vegas at the event.

NHL All-Star Weekend will not be held in the 2024-25 season.

Karlsson, in his eighth season with the Golden Knights, is tied for ninth on the team with 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists). He also owns a plus-4 rating and has yet to visit the penalty box in 17 games played.

Karlsson recently skated in his 700th career game, the same night he whizzed a pass through the slot to Brett Howden for the game-winner over the Jets.

Karlsson is the franchise's all-time leader in plus-minus (+116) and shorthanded goals (13) while also ranking second in games played (519) and goals (156).

Karlsson has represented his homeland previously, at the 2017 IIHF World Championship where he helped Sweden earn a gold medal.

Karlsson will take the ice on the road tonight against the Anaheim Ducks, who chose him 53rd overall in the 2011 NHL Draft. It'll be the second leg of a back-to-back after the Golden Knights beat the Edmonton Oilers, 1-0, Tuesday night in Vegas.

"Back-to-back, we're used to it, so no worries," Karlsson said.
