Goalies jump into line brawl during ECHL playoff game (Video)
The Orlando Solar Bears were seconds away from taking Game 4 of their ECHL playoff series against the Florida Everblades. And then all hell broke loose, if hell was a somewhat hilarious line brawl involving taunting goalies.
The initial fight at center ice was between Florida’s Mitchell Heard and Orlando’s Mason Marchment. But then everyone else got involved down the ice, including Orlando goalie Ryan Massa, in the midst of a 42-save 3-0 shutout.
That drew Alex Nedeljkovic from his crease to join the fray, with Massa under a pile of bodies. Nedeljkovic skated over, pulled on some players, threw some awkward punches and then tried to get Massa to fight him as the linesmen pulled them apart.
That led to a glorious scene in which Massa waved goodbye to Nedeljkovic and then did what can only be called the “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!” to the appreciative crowd.
From Justin Cohn of the Journal Gazette, who hipped us to the clip:
The game included 32 penalties for 182 minutes. Heard had a game-high 29 minutes, including a game misconduct for instigating a fight in the last five minutes and another game misconduct for throwing equipment.
Throwing equipment, generally frowned upon.
