Goalies drop gloves at centre ice during pro-hockey game
There is truly nothing like two goaltenders storming down the ice to fight each other by the red line. We got a taste of just that on Saturday.
In the Federal Prospects Hockey League, a low-level professional league based in the eastern and midwestern United States, during a blowout between the Columbus River Dragons and the Port Huron Prowlers, the two opposing netminders were able to drop the gloves in the middle of a line brawl.

River Dragons netminder Bailey MacBurnie and Prowlers’ Richard Shipman wholeheartedly agreed to take part in the already-ensuing, team-wide bout at centre ice. Despite MacBurnie being the challenger – according to the play-by-play commentator – he was on the receiving end of a finishing blow and ended up being the first netminder to hit the ice.
During this entire brawl in the second period, there was a total of five game-misconduct penalties, six fighting majors, a roughing double minor, an unsportsmanlike-conduct minor, and a slashing minor penalty dished out. Both goaltenders received fighting and game-misconduct penalties.
The River Dragons ended up taking this game by a score of 10-0, so maybe Shipman just wanted to let out some frustration for allowing so many goals.
