2-0 success against Austria Vienna

We were finally back after a month since our last appearance at the Red Bull Arena - and took a 2-0 win against Austria Vienna in the 8th ADMIRAL Bundesliga matchday. The opponents coached by Stephan Helm tested our side in the first half, but we deservedly took all three points after Gloukh converted a penalty and drove home in the final phase.

Match summary

It wasn't such a ferocious start from our boys, but it soon sparked into life. We brought the ball into the Austria Vienna box and the hosts' Abubakr Barry brought down Dorgeles Nene. Oscar Gloukh stepped up to convert the penalty clinically – sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and sending us 1-0 up (10').

Could we press on from netting the opener? We did look for a second with renewed confidence, but there was no easy way through the packed Austria Vienna defence - even if we were well in control of the play. Austria looked to strike back on the break, and did threaten us from time to time, but our defence held firm. Maurice Malone sneaked behind our backline only for Janis Blaswich to save us (38').

We were well on course for the points after ending the first period with the 1-0 lead, but we could not take anything for granted.

We had the visitors' attacking efforts well under control after the restart, while our attacking livewire Adam Daghim (50') and his strike partner Karim Konate (55') could have made it 2-0. We needed to be patient as the chances dried up a little. There was virtually nothing to deal with in front of our target, however, with close to 70 percent possession in the second half leaving us well on top. The best of the opportunities all came our way in this phase with a Blank header and Konate volley going over (84').

Just when it looked like we had to contend ourselves with the single-goal win, our Israeli midfield maestro struck again! Gloukh bounded forward with the ball and took aim from 20 metres out. The 20-year-old's effort came off the inside of the post and over the line to crown our home comeback (88')!

That's just the way we wanted to set things up for our home UEFA Champions League opener on Tuesday 1 October. Stade Brest are the opposition (kick-off at 18:45 CEST) as we want to count on your support again. Individual tickets as well as four-match packages are available on our online ticket shop.
