Even as Barcelona continue to grow increasingly confident about signing Nico Williams, Athletic Club are sparing no efforts to convince him to stay put.

Earlier in the month, the Basque club’s manager, Ernesto Valverde, insisted that he expected the 22-year-old to be available for pre-season and stay at the club.

Furthermore, Los Leones have been marketing Williams’ #11 shirt for the upcoming season at the club stores very hard.

Now, Oscar De Marcos, the captain of Athletic Club has come out and advised Nico Williams to stay put with the Basque outfit, suggesting that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

“Decisions have to be taken by the player himself and I have no idea what he is thinking, but I suppose his head is spinning a thousand times. My opinion is that the best thing for him is to continue at Athletic,” De Marcos remarked, as quoted by SPORT.

Continuing, the Athletic Club skipper warned: “There is a tide that seems that when Barça want you there is a logic that seems that you have to go to Barça and if you don’t you are making a mistake.

“Many times you have to take into account that all that glitters is not gold and you have to assess where we are.”

De Marcos went on to add that despite all the media pressure that is there surrounding Nico and his situation, Athletic Club are confident that he will stay put.

“For Nico, it is a delicate situation because there is a lot of noise from the outside and it seems that this pressure can take you away.

“Nico is an Athletic player, right now I have the feeling that he is the one who is going to have to make the final decision. We are confident that he is going to stay with us,” he concluded.
