Glentoran beat Ballymena to book place in last four

Glentoran will face Crusaders for a place in the final of the BetMcLean Cup after a 2-0 win over Ballymena United in the last eight.

Jordan Jenkins and David Fisher netted in the second half to book the Glens' place in the semi-finals.

Glentoran dominated the first half at the Oval, which hosted the game after heavy snowfall in the Ballymena area on Tuesday morning made the pitch at the Showgrounds unplayable.

Jonny Russell and James Singleton both headed over corners by Danny Amos before Cammy Palmer had a low effort pushed away by Sean O'Neill.

Fisher should have scored the follow-up from close range but was denied by O'Neill, but the striker's blushes were spared by the offside flag.

The Glens had a penalty appeal waved away before their closest effort of the half came when Amos cut inside on his right foot and curled an effort that crashed off the crossbar.

Palmer went close again at the end of the half but O'Neill tipped his low drive away from danger.

Ballymena, who were stunned by second-tier Ards in the Irish Cup on Saturday, improved after the restart as Joe Moore and Josh Carson sent half chances wide before Sky Blues defender Kym Nelson turned Jenkins' strike around the post.

The deadlock was eventually broken with 21 minutes to play when Jenkins swivelled outside the area and fired a low, first-time effort beyond O'Neill.

Fisher secured the win with five minutes remaining when he broke into the area after a defensive mishap and the forward kept his cool to slot home.

Glentoran maintain their record of not having lost a cup game this season and are now two games away from winning a trophy they last lifted in 2010.
