Glasner on Wharton, signings and Stockport

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has been speaking to the media before Sunday's FA Cup game against Stockport County (kick-off 15:00 GMT).

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

  • Will Hughes will not be available on Sunday while Palace have had "many ill players" this week: "Until today, JP [Jean-Philippe Mateta], Maxence Lacroix and Tyrick Mitchell didn't train. Caleb Kporha trained for the first time today, but Dean Henderson went home ill. It can be that one or two come back tomorrow. Of course, you are not available to start if you have been in bed with fever for almost the whole week. There are still many question marks."

  • Adam Wharton is "improving" after his surgery but is "still far away" from full training: "It's getting better [but] I think, in January, it is quite unlikely that he will return."

  • Glasner rejected suggestions Chelsea were circling to sign centre-back Marc Guehi: "No-one has told me he wants to leave - the players want to stay here. If we can keep the squad together, we're really pleased with how the players have developed over the last months and also how we created a team spirit again after not an easy start.

  • On making additions in this window: "As soon as we sign a player, we will tell you. We are working on two transfers - I don't know how quick we will get them done."

  • On taking charge of his first FA Cup match: " I know especially here in England, there's a lot of tradition with the FA Cup. More than 600 clubs started in this competition. When you are the one who lifts the trophy, that means you are top of the 600. This is great."

  • He is committed to doing well in cup competitions: "I have mentioned it quite often: every single game is important. Personally, I have a lot of positive memories with cup games, with winning trophies as a player, as a manager and as assistant manager. We had to wait long to start this competition but we enter to win it."

  • On League One opponents Stockport County: "We reached the quarter-finals in the Carabao [Cup] and now we start the FA Cup against Stockport with a lot of respect for them. We analysed them, we watched many games – a good team, very attacking team, scoring many goals, very direct, very aggressive, good shape, good tactical behaviour. But we play as a Premier League team, at home against a League One team with just one goal: win the game and go into the next round."
