Giroud reveals what former Milan team-mates have told him about Fonseca
After leaving AC Milan in the summer, Olivier Giroud did not experience Paulo Fonseca’s management. However, he has been told what the Portuguese coach is like by his former teammates.
Giroud’s departure looked likely in the early parts of 2024, and when the French forward eventually was confirmed to be leaving Milan it did not come as a shock. Milan could not offer the minutes to the striker that he felt he could provide, and there were no hard feelings when it was decided that a split was best.
Nevertheless, he has still kept in contact with his former teammates, watching from afar, and he spoke of how the squad are doing in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.
“The new formula gives you time to rise. Milan must be ambitious: aiming for the Champions League is a must. Because the squad is deep and the attack is great, as I said.
“In Europe, those who have quality in attack win. Fonseca will have to find balance but now he can work with serenity. And I know that the boys are happy with the training sessions: the group follows him. I think this is the right year to make a good run in the Champions League.”
Giroud has been keeping a keen eye on the Rossoneri, and after the Derby della Madonnina victory, he took to Instagram to post a message of support. Even if he has moved on, he still has a place for the Rossoneri in his heart, and the feeling is mutual.
