Gimme him: One player the Bears would steal from the Packers
After the first half of the season kept them out of NFC North divisional play, the Chicago Bears (4-5) will face the Green Bay Packers in Week 11 and they'll have much to prove as they're currently downward spiraling on a three-game losing streak. Ahead of the Packers matchup, the Bears were busy this week, changing offensive coordinators after firing Shane Waldron after nine games, and naming Thomas Brown as his replacement.
Currently, the two teams feel to be at two completely opposite stages with the state of their franchises. As the Bears once again continue to look for an offense that can find them long-term success, the Packers are a model of consistency at every level of an NFL organization. From Brett Favre, to Aaron Rodgers, and now to Jordan Love, quarterback has been the least of their issues over the past 20-plus years.
Head coach Matt LaFleur also boasts an undefeated record over the Bears as the Packers lead man, and this season has them with a record of 6-3, in big part to their defense. This week's edition of 'Gimme Him' sees a player in his first-year in Green Bay who has made a world of a difference at a position the Bears are currently struggling with. Due to the injury to Jaquan Brisker, veteran Kevin Byard on a one-year deal, this week, Xavier McKinney is the player we would steal from Green Bay to put on Chicago.
With Jaquan Brisker out for what will be a a fifth consecutive game, the team is missing one of their most talented leaders, and while Elijah Hicks has filled in respectably for him, McKinney would be a major upgrade. As a defense, the Bears are known for and pride themselves as a defense that leads the turnover ratio and gets takeaways. McKinney's best attribute this season has been just that, especially in the passing game.
Totaling six interceptions, seven pass deflections, one sack, one fumble recovery, and 42 total tackles, he's been an absolute workhorse for the Green Bay defense. Whether it be a pairing alongside Brisker, or for this purpose in replacement of Brisker, McKinney would be embraced by the city of Chicago, Bears fans all around, and he is molded perfectly for what this defense prides itself on.
