Lamine Yamal is the toast of the nation in Spain after his stunning display last night at the UEFA Euro 2024, as he helped his team beat France 2-1 in the semifinals.

In the process, the teenage sensation broke a plethora of records as well, becoming the youngest player ever to feature in a semi-final of a major international tournament and the youngest goalscorer in Euro history, among several others.

Yamal has been churning out displays like this for Barcelona throughout the season gone by, making a huge impact despite his young age.

So, it did not come as a surprise to see Barça’s sporting director Deco heap praise and wax lyrical over the 16-year-old sensation before his exploits against France last night.

“It’s very nice to have Lamine. We already knew he has a lot of quality and he is showing incredible maturity,” said Deco, as quoted by SPORT.

“He is also confident and serene, both when he plays and when he speaks. He is a gift for everybody. For Barça, for Spain and for football in general,” the former midfielder added.

A generational talent

In only a year at the highest level, Yamal has already achieved so much with Barcelona and Spain. It is clear that the La Masia gem is a generational talent who will continue to scale great heights in the game.

Having helped Spain beat France and make it to the finals of the UEFA Euro 2024, Yamal, who will turn 17 years old on Saturday, will aim to celebrate the occasion with a victory in the European Championship finals on Sunday.
