Giants outfielder fires one of the worst throws you'll ever see

San Francisco Giants outfielder Orlando Calixte is just trying to make a name for himself. In his first opportunity at extended playing time, the rookie is out to prove he belongs. Given how bad the Giants have been, he could carve himself into a solid role with some memorable plays.

Calixte found himself at the center of one of those Monday, but he would probably prefer you forget it. On a sacrifice fly in the first inning, Calixte unleashed one of the most inaccurate throws we’ve ever seen.

With men on second and third, Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Hernan Perez lifted a fly ball to Calixte in left. He made the catch in deep territory, but still decided to try and nab the runner. Which runner … well, we’re not entirely sure.

Calixte’s throw sailed way high, and wound up flying between third base and home plate. Was he trying to throw out the runner at home? Or was he hoping to catch the runner advancing to third? We honestly can’t tell.

On a wider view, it appears Calixte pivots his body toward third, so that’s our best guess for now. Either way, it didn’t go well for him. The end result was that two runs scored on the sac fly. The second run was due to Calixte’s throwing error.

It was a rough mistake, though the Giants managed to pick him up later. They scored a run in both the fourth and fifth inning to tie the game and take Calixte off the hook.

That’s a good thing. While the error was embarrassing, it didn’t define the contest. The Giants actually came back to win after a late offensive explosion, beating the Brewers 7-2.

Calixte might hear about it for the next couple days, but the jeers should die down soon enough. At age-25, he’s got plenty of baseball ahead of him. That means there will be plenty of chances to put this throw in the past.
