Gianluigi Donnarumma’s poor form sees PSG contract extension talks put on stand-by
Gianluigi Donnarumma (25) is no longer the guaranteed starter at Paris Saint-Germain. Failing to provide assurances, particularly in the UEFA Champions League, the Italian is now in a rotation with Matvei Safonov with the latter starting in PSG’s last Champions League game, a defeat to Bayern Munich.
Donnarumma’s form may now threaten his future at the Parc des Princes, RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins understands. Talks over a renewal to the goalkeeper’s current deal, which expires in 2026, had been ongoing, however, his performances have seen those talks come to a standstill.
Whilst L’Équipe understands that Donnarumma is frustrated with his current situation, PSG seemingly aren’t happy either. The hierarchy at Les Parisiens believe that the Italy international’s recent performances are not in line with the salary being demanded in order to extend. As a result, the talks have been stopped, at least for now. It may require Donnarumma to raise his level if they are to restart.
