Move over Hartford Yard Goats, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Savannah Bananas and El Paso Chihuahuas — the New Orleans Baby Cakes have come to claim the crown of most unbelievable but actual Minor League Baseball team.

On Tuesday, the New Orleans Zephyrs — the Miami Marlins Triple-A affiliate — announced that they’d rebranded themselves as the Baby Cakes, a move that, if nothing else, got people talking. It immediately became a trending topic on Twitter, where was there no shortage of opinions about the team’s new look, which is inspired by actual New Orleans king cakes, which are popular at Mardi Gras and often have a small plastic baby inside of them.

This baby, though? Looks like he could be Negan’s youngest underling, popping out of a cake ready to bash your skull in. Or maybe just hit a baseball. It’s no surprise that the Baby Cakes have a lot of new merchandise and some different jerseys to wear, both of which celebrate the new identity.

People on Twitter seemed to give the Baby Cakes the thumbs down, but take that with a grain of salt, because people on Twitter hate almost everything. Nonetheless, some of the responses were funny:

Like most offseason moves, we’ll wait to see how this one looks on the field before making any firm judgment.
