Will Gerrior Commits To NCAA School

Earlier today, Ottawa 67's overage forward Will Gerrior announced his commitment to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for the University of Maine next season.

Gerrior recorded 100 points in 200 games during his last three seasons with Ottawa. He has never failed to increase his point total from year to year and he is on course to do so once again this year.

His 20 goals and three assists this season put him on pace to finish the year with 48 points.

The Halifax native's performance during Luca Pinelli's absence has been especially impressive. In the captains' absence, Ottawa needed players to step up and Gerrior answered the call.

His current seven-game goal-scoring streak started when Pinelli and Head Coach Dave Cameron left the team to join Team Canada.

In those seven games, Gerrior scored nine goals and a total of 11 points. The massive uptick in his production stems from enhanced usage and opportunity in Pinelli's absence.

Only Calgary Flames' prospect Henry Mews, who leads the team in points was better during that stretch.

In Gerrior Maine receives a feisty forward who has a scoring touch and the ability to score in big moments. It often seems that when Ottawa needs a big goal Gerrior finds a way. There is a reason the team calls Gerrior "The Generator."

While Gerrior size is not that impressive he plays a feisty game and is unafraid of getting into rough situations. He can also be used on the power play and penalty kill.

His 200-plus games of OHL experience as well as 25 games of playoff experience make him an ideal addition for a Maine squad that will look to continue competing at the top of the standings.

The wave of overage OHL players committing to NCAA schools continues to grow as the season progresses. Several other players, including Pano Fimis and Noah Van Vliet announced their commitment to different schools in the last few weeks.

With the changes to the NCAA eligibility rules, these players can continue their hockey careers and development while getting an education.
