Germany vs Netherlands match preview: Who will prevail at Allianz Arena?
Germany can pretty much wrap up a place in the quarter-finals of the Nations League with a victory over the Netherlands at the Allianz Arena on Monday, October 14, 2024.
The game will kick-off at 19:45 and will be shown live on Premier Player and Viaplay’s YouTube channel.
Germany looking extend their advantage
Germany’s Euro 2024 campaign didn’t go as hoped, but Julian Nagelsmann’s side showed plenty of promise in the summer and that appears to have been realised in the Nations League.
Die Mannschaft opened their Nations League account with a 5-0 hammering of Hungary and then recorded their second win when beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-1 in Zenica on Friday.
Germany played out a 2-2 draw with group rivals Netherlands in Amsterdam in between those two victories, but Oranje’s 1-1 draw with Hungary has opened the door for Nagelsmann’s side to take control of the section.
A German victory at the Allianz Arena would see Die Mannschaft move five points clear of the Dutch, and with games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary to come, it would leave Nagelsmann’s men firmly on course for the quarter-finals.
Germany v Netherlands Team News
Star names Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala withdrew from the Germany squad prior to the win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Niclas Fullkrug, Robin Koch, David Raum and Benjamin Henrichs are all absent due to injuries, which led to call ups for Robin Gosens, Kevin Schade and the uncapped duo of Jamie Leweling and Jonathan Burkardt.
With Manuel Neuer now retired, and fellow keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen a long-term absentee, Alexander Nubel was handed the gloves for his first Germany start on Friday.
Nubel is expected to continue in goal, while Deniz Undav will hope to keep up his impressive scoring run at the other end of the pitch.
For the visitors, defenders Jurrien Timber and Nathan Ake will both miss out through injury and Teun Koopmeiners withdrew after the squad was named. Frenkie de Jong is another player on the sidelines and changes at the back will be necessary after Virgil van Dijk was sent off against Hungary.
Matthijs de Ligt hasn’t enjoyed a fantastic start to his Manchester United career, but the defender is expected to partner Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven at centre-back with Van Dijk suspended.
Steven Bergwijn isn’t under consideration for Orajne after the forward opted to make the move to the Saudi Pro League.
