Genoa President Warns Inter Milan: ‘Not Giving Any Gifts’ In Chase Of €35M Rated Forward

Genoa President Alberto Zangrillo insists that his club will “not be giving any gifts” to Inter Milan in their pursuit of Albert Gudmundsson.

The Grifone executive spoke to Italian broadcaster Telenord, via FCInterNews. He made clear that he expects to sell Gudmundsson for a big fee.

It is certainly no secret that Inter are keen to sign Gudmundsson this summer.

The Icelandic international is by all accounts the Nerazzurri’s top target in attack.

Inter have already signed Mehdi Taremi. And going the other way, Alexis Sanchez left at the end of his contract.

But reportedly, Inter see Gudmundsson as having the ideal profile to give their attack a different sort of quality than it already has.

The 26-year-old has strong dribbling ability in tight spaces. He also is versatile enough to play in midfield.

Therefore, beyond the fact that he scored fourteen goals and made seven assists last season, Gudmundsson would have the ability to make Inter’s attack more versatile and complete.

Genoa President: “Not Giving Any Gifts” To Inter In Albert Gudmundsson Chase

Of course, the big obstacle for Inter as far as signing Gudmundsson is not hard to see.

The former AZ Alkmaar forward was in outstanding form last season.

This means that Genoa will be aiming to cash in on him this summer. Reports indicate that the Ligurian club will aim for a fee of at least 35 million for Gudmundsson.

“I think Genoa have to get back to where we’ve not been for a long time,” said the club’s President Zangrillo.

“To do that, we have to consolidate financially. That would allow us to take advantage of the squad that we have – to control it, be the master of it.”

“And that would allow us to, for example, say no to Beppe Marotta when he asks for us to give Albert Gudmundsson as a gift,” Zangrillo said.

“And I say that without any offense intended to Marotta, who is a friend of mine.”

The Genoa President declared, “I say this because I know that Inter are still keen on Gudmundsson.”

“And I still hope that he can keep dreaming,” he said as far as the prospect of a big move to Inter for Gudmundsson.

“But Genoa must be masters of our own destiny,” Zangrillo said.

“If we sell Josep Martinez it’s because we believe we can afford to and because we can bring in another Martinez,” he said of the goalkeeper soon to join Inter. “Or maybe someone even better.”

“If Gudmundsson leaves, like Radu Dragusin left, we’ve seem that we can do even better.”
